What the job includes
- Lifting the affected area and setting the pavers aside for reuse
- Working out why it sank, which is usually base, water or a root
- Rebuilding and recompacting the base underneath rather than just adding sand
- Relaying the original pavers so the repair matches the rest
- New joint sand and a compaction pass across the repair and its edges
Why it sank, and why adding sand does not fix it
The common failure here is a base that was too thin or never compacted in lifts. Sand washes into the voids, the surface follows it down, and you get a dip. Topping it up with more sand buys a season at most.
Water is the second cause. A downspout discharging onto one spot, or an irrigation head washing under an edge, will undermine an area that was otherwise fine. Fixing the paver without fixing the water means doing the job twice.
Roots are the third. Ficus and black olive lift a surface from below and they keep lifting. Sometimes the honest answer is to reroute rather than reset.
The genuine advantage of pavers over poured concrete is exactly this. A failed area lifts, the cause gets fixed, and the original material goes back down. A cracked slab cannot be repaired invisibly.
Paver leveling, and when a repair becomes a restoration
Paver leveling is the specific job of lifting a settled area, rebuilding the base under it and relaying your original pavers so the fix does not read as a patch. It is the most common thing we are called out for and it is usually a one-day job. Paver restoration is the bigger version: a surface that has sunk in several places, lost most of its joint sand and gone green along with it. That is closer to rebuilding the base with a clean and a re-sand on top, and we will tell you honestly which one you are looking at.

Almost always. That is the point of a repair, and it is why the finished area matches instead of looking patched.
Why did it sink in the first place?
Usually base compaction, water washing the base out, or a root. We find out which before relaying it, because otherwise it comes back.
Do you fix work someone else did?
Yes, a lot of it. We will tell you honestly whether it needs a repair or a rebuild.
How fast can you come out?
