More of Boca sits inside a managed community than almost anywhere else we work. Boca Del Mar, Broken Sound, Woodfield and the rest all run architectural review, and in most of them you cannot order a paver until the colour and pattern are approved. It is the single biggest scheduling variable on a Boca job and it is worth starting before you have chosen anything else.

The Mizner-influenced Mediterranean architecture that runs through the city pushes material choice in a particular direction. Warm tones, travertine and clay-toned pavers sit against those elevations far better than a cool grey concrete, and review boards tend to agree.

Travertine is more common here than in any other city we serve, largely because so much of the work is pool decks on properties where the finish is the entire point. It stays cooler underfoot, which matters on a west-facing deck in August.

Travertine pavers are the material Boca asks for most, and around a pool it is the right call: natural stone stays measurably cooler underfoot than concrete, and the colour runs right through, so a chipped edge shows more stone rather than a grey core. Brick pavers are the other Boca staple. The herringbone clay brick in the photographs above is our FAU job, and that warm clay tone sits against Mizner-influenced elevations far better than a cool grey concrete does. It is also what the architectural review boards here tend to approve fastest. If your community has an approved palette already, bring us the list before you fall in love with something outside it, because the review is the longest part of a Boca job and it is the one part we cannot speed up. Where we have had a colour passed in a nearby community we will say so, and that usually saves a fortnight against starting from a catalogue.
