Rainfall, water table, and what actually works here
South Florida takes most of its rain in short heavy bursts between June and October. A drain sized for a gentle soaking simply overflows. The run has to be sized for the storm, not the average.
The water table sits high across much of Palm Beach County, and in the wet season it can be close enough to the surface that there is nowhere for water to soak away. That changes the design entirely: the drain has to move water somewhere rather than just hold it.
Filter fabric is the difference between a drain that works for fifteen years and one that silts up in three. Sandy soil migrates into unwrapped stone and blocks it.
Where the water is allowed to discharge is a real constraint. It cannot simply be pushed onto a neighbour's property, and some communities have specific rules about tying into a swale.

Will a French drain fix standing water in my yard?
If there is somewhere lower for the water to go, yes. If there is not, we will say so and talk about regrading or a dry well instead.
Can it run under a driveway or patio?
Yes, and it is far cheaper to do during a paver installation than to cut in afterwards.
How long does it last?
Properly wrapped and bedded, many years. Drains that fail early are almost always ones laid without filter fabric.
Do you put the grass back?
Yes. The trench is backfilled and the surface restored, turf or pavers.
