What our climate does to a paved surface
Humidity plus shade grows algae and mildew. That is the green-black film on north-facing walks and anything sitting under a tree. Pressure alone takes the top off it and leaves the spores, which is why it is back within a season if it is not actually treated.
Iron in well water leaves rust-coloured stains that will not pressure off at all. They need a dedicated treatment, and sealing afterwards is what stops them coming straight back.
Joint sand washes out under heavy summer rain and under irrigation. Once the joints are empty the pavers can rock and weeds establish. Re-sanding is often the highest-value part of the whole job and the part people forget to ask for.
Too much pressure permanently damages travertine and marble and will strip the face off older concrete pavers. The right pressure and the right nozzle matter far more than how big the machine is.
Paver sealing and cleaning, usually in one day
On a normal residential driveway or deck, paver cleaning and paver sealing together are a one to two day job, and the reason it is not always one is drying time. Sealing a surface that is still damp traps moisture underneath and clouds the finish, so we clean, re-sand and come back rather than rushing it in an afternoon. The order matters as much as the products. Growth gets treated rather than blasted off, joints get refilled, and only then does anything go on top.

How often should pavers be sealed here?
Typically every two to three years, sooner on a pool deck or if you are on well water.
Will sealing make them slippery?
We use sealers appropriate to the location. Around a pool that means a finish that does not go slick when wet.
Can you get rust stains out?
Usually. Iron staining from irrigation needs a specific treatment rather than pressure, and sealing afterwards keeps it from returning.
Do you re-sand the joints?
Yes, and it is often what makes the biggest visible difference. Empty joints are what let pavers rock and weeds in.
